I'm throwing everything I've accumulated so far at becoming an airline pilot.
THE HUMAN STORYI'm Rick, I'm in my early 40s and upon writing this, I live in Leeds, West Yorkshire, UK, though not for long. I'm relocating to East Sussex with my partner and I'm throwing everything I've accumulated so far at becoming an airline pilot.
Like so many others of my generations (and a few after me), it germinated with a flight or two and it blossomed with a flight simulator. The one with the orange cover and the Concorde on the front to be precise.
Hours frittered away over a virtual Atlantic, translated into work experience at a flying club and after aeons of poor self-belief and a (graciously) winning battle with crippling money management, I took to the skies and achieved my PPL in my 30s.
At 40 I've had a chance to look at my direction and assess.
The answer was terribly easy.
Here I am.
Back en route.
Documenting each leg of the journey and throwing everything I've got at it. I can get a lot of the way there by selling the house, but not the whole way. Self-belief WILL wane. Money WILL run dry and there will be other hurdles as I go, but through this website and my YouTube channel Rick's Flight Plan on YouTube I want nothing more than to bring everyone with me.
Well wishers and curious alike, but particularly the hundreds, thousands of other women and men in my shoes who take heart and learnings from it because you're not where you feel you should be in life.
